Anne Frank: Within & Without
From Puppet Wikia, the puppet encyclopedia
Anne Frank: Within & Without is a puppet performance about the life of Anne Frank, a Jewish girl who hid from the Nazis in World War 2 for two years with her family. It is performed at the Center for Puppetry Arts, and is one of their longest running shows. The show opened on January 19, 2006 and continually runs to this day. "We always think it's only for children and that it's like watching a bad birthday party clown. And you think, How are they going to do something serious like Anne Frank or Shakespeare with puppets?"[1]
"Two different sized puppets are used during the performance. When the focus is set inside the hideout, 12-inch models are used that fit in the dimensions of the intricate doll house. Scenes meant to be played out in a smaller environment, such as in a single room or at a desk, use 24-inch puppets that give the puppeteers more freedom to show movement and body expression." [2]
