The Hans Christian Andersen Storybook is a marionette show produced by David Simpich. Originally written and performed in 1994, this play received a UNIMA-USA Citation of Excellence and has been revived in the Simpich Marionettes 2007-8 touring season.
"David Simpich created this play as a celebration of the style and themes of Andersen's fairytales. The presentation establishes an 'imaginary dialogue' between the author and some of his most famous storybook creations and centers on the character of the Ugly Duckling and his serious concern over Andersen's development of his storyline. Other famous characters join Andersen in sharing their stories and cheering on the Ugly Duckling towards the revelation waiting in the final scene of his tale."
